I’ll spare you any lengthy musings on the place of New Year’s resolutions in my knitting practice. It’s almost the middle of January! And you probably don’t care anyway!
Let’s get right into the knitting. Documenting these plans is as much (or likely much more) for me as it is for you, dear reader. Still, maybe you’ll find something that you want to knit or get some voyeuristic pleasure from the way I’m deluding myself about how much I can get done. Onwards!
Current WIPs
I wouldn’t describe myself as someone who feels a compulsion to finish things. I will gleefully throw a book down mid chapter or stop halfway through a TV series if it’s not holding my attention.
This fall, though, I caught a nasty case of cast-on-itis and am entering the new year with a less-than-clean slate. I almost never have more than one sweater project on the go but right now I have 3 languishing in project bags and I’m losing sleep over them.
My first goal this year is to finish at least one of these projects (bonus points if I finish two!).
Lily Pad Lanark
This project has been so much work and I keep asking myself if the finished object is going to turn out how I want. I blocked it mid-project and the Peace Fleece DK yarn fluffed up beautifully but the collar still feels too much like a neck brace. At one point I was certain I’d frog the whole thing and knit a pickle green cardigan.
I picked it back up last week, though, and knit an entire sleeve just to say I did. I also just ordered a $20 zipper from Pacific Trimming so the sunk cost keeps growing.
Marble Doppio Sweater

This was an impromptu cast on in November when I realized that I had three perfect yarns in stash to hold together for this sweater. All three of these yarns have been sitting in my closet for years after their projects were finished or abandoned. Together they make a plush and drapey fabric that will be the perfect bougie sweatshirt.
The stressor here is that I am playing a dangerous game of chicken with the priciest yarn. I found a really good match for my stash Kumo at a sweet shop in Louisville, KY but I really don’t want to have to order another skien just to knit the neckline and cuffs!
Groovy Flower Power Pullover

I’m thinking about this one as a longer term companion. I put it down in favor of some other colorwork projects this fall and imagine that I’ll pick it up here and there throughout the rest of this year. I cannot wait to wear it out though!
An Impossibly Long List of New Projects
I’ve been trying to knit through my dragon’s hoard of yarn this year with varying success. With that goal in mind, though, I am constantly dreaming of new projects to use the multiple sweater quantities of yarn that I have mouldering in my closet. Here’s a quick run through of my current favorite ideas.
Ester Jacket by PetiteKnit
I‘ve got some gorgeous creamy white Aran weight yarn that I picked up when a local yarn when out of business that is crying out to be made into an Ester Jacket. I briefly dream of wearing this on my upcoming trip to Ireland but since I’m leaving in less than a week and this isn’t started I think that will stay a dream.
V-Neck Lakes Pullover by Ozetta
An overwhelming need to knit and wear a cozy v-neck sweater came over me last week and sent me digging around in my stash for a yarn combo that would make a comforting fabric. I’ve got a few options that would use up some longstanding stash à la my Doppio sweater and I desperately want to cast this on.
DRK Everyday Sweater by Andrea Mowry
I impulsively purchased two cones of a yak, merino and alpaca yarn from Colourmart two years ago and it is a crying shame that it hasn’t been turned into a beautiful basic yet. My current plan is a DRK Everyday Sweater to see if it stands up to the hype.
Socks, socks and more socks!
I have both 52 Weeks of Socks and 52 Weeks of Socks Vol. 2 on my shelf and I hate to admit to you that I have definitely not knit 104 socks yet. Getting some of my sock yarn out of my stash and onto my feet (and the feet of my loved ones!) would be a coup.
Now I have to get back to knitting…
I’ve got quite the queue to knit through and it’s already mid winter. Half the fun of knitting is dreaming about all of the projects that you could one day wear to a social function and humblebrag that you made it. I’ve got some work to do if I’m going to see that dream come true though!
Yay for WIPs! I know you've finished some of these already - so proud! (since I'm super late to reading this..)
I always love seeing what you're working on!!
