How, oh HOW, did PetiteKnit know that I was considering featuring a collared sweater in THIS KNIT this week? She released the Elisabeth Blouse and of course shot immediately to the top of the Hot Right now filter on Ravelry.
I wanted to find a sweater with a collar for this week’s edition because I’d been thinking about this video posted by Emily of High Fiber knits for (*checks post date*) a month. She highlights “specialized collars” as a key trend in knitting patterns this winter and… now that I’ve watched it again she shares an image of the exact same pattern from PetiteKnit. Dag nabbit, I’ve been influenced!
No matter where the idea came from, though, I can’t get the thought of a polo collar out of my head and figured it might be fun to follow Emily’s lead and take a tour of Ravelry and Instagram to see what I could find.
The Patterns
I just discovered the attribute filter on Ravelry and it helped me pull out a few more exciting collared sweaters. Of course, the Elisabeth Blouse is the hot new thing, but I love this squishy Groningen Pullover from smaller designer MJ Wilms.
It looks like it’s brioche or half fisherman’s rib but neither is listed in the pattern techniques so maybe its a simpler dupe stitch. This pattern is knit with unspun yarn and looks like a perfect cast on if you are able to get ahold of some Nutiden or Plotulopi.
Even though I featured a vest last week, I can’t leave off this perfectly preppy number from one of my favorite designers Kiyomi Burgin. The Chako Vest looks like something your cool granny would wear to whip up some handmade pasta.
The collar is a sweet round rib, rather than being double knit and v-necked like the previous patterns. It leans more academic than boyfriend’s polo and has to be so warm.
If you’re looking for a frilly moment, the Chantilly Cardigan from Laura at Penrose Knits certainly delivers. I usually trend towards the simpler styles but her lavender sample might just turn me into a believer.
I love the look, styled with some Docs and worn jeans to cut through the sweetness of the collar.
The Projects
The Elisabeth Blouse is so fresh to the internet that there aren’t very many projects on Ravelry right now, but the Insta hashtag is serving some gorgeous neutrals and brights.
The Maude Tee is another pattern by PetiteKnit with a very similar collar and short sleeves. Check out this perfect Kelley green Maude Tee:
And these adorable stripes:
This cozy brown Groningen Pullover looks like you should be strolling along a blowzy heath with the collar pulled up to your ears:
And this black heathered beauty looks like a knitted snuggle.
If you can’t tell by this point in the newsletter, I’m a sucker for earthy greens and this Chako Vest looks exactly like something I’d throw on for a cold morning walk:
And this perfect purple looks so good with the photo styling!
If I’m honest, it was Melissa Lu’s pale green Chantilly that convinced me to give this pattern a second look. The color is divine.
But I also love this deep wine version (plus peep those velvet smoking slippers).
Y’all, we didn’t even get to zippered collars in this post! The knitfluence is certainly stronger than I’d care to admit and I appreciate when creators like Emily can identify and dissect (and enjoy!) trends like this one. I knit for fun and warmth and I’m ok cribbing good ideas from others every now and then! Please let me know if you’ve been eyeing these collared sweaters too and if you think I’d ever even wear one.
Those stripes!! That one is my fav of course. The rest of these are very you. I love knit! ;)
