The end of the cold weather brings on panic in knitters who still have heavy sweater projects on the needles. Will this wool/mohair cabled beauty be ready before the heat forces it into a drawer? How hot is too hot for 100% alpaca??
Every year I swear to myself that I’ll shelve the insulating stuff in March but I know that it’s a lie and that I’ll be sitting under something itchy and weather inappropriate until June. I did manage to finish up a few projects this winter that got some wear before the seasonal turnover, though, and I want to share them with you before they get packed away until November (at the earliest).
The first project is an Eva Cardigan I started full of piss and vinegar in October with the belief I’d finish it in a few weeks and pack it for an upcoming trip to Italy. A lightweight navy cashmere sweater on the streets of Florence in November? C’mon!
When February rolled around, though, this was still not finished. The yarn, which came from a cone labeled “DK” by Colourmart turned out to be closer to sport weight and the endless back and forth stockinette was like water torture. I finally finished it up, though, and it has been my most worn knit this year so far.

Did I need any more hand knit beanies this winter? No. Did I knit more than one? Yes.

On the aforementioned trip to Italy I walked into a shop on a piazza in Pisa armed with Ravelry photos and an Italian vocabulary list of knitting terms. I walked out with some standard but still precious superwash wool in this killer red. I knitted this top down hat to use up as much of it as possible. The peak at the top ended up looking more condom than Instagram chic but I still love it.
Also can you believe that I knit my first Oslo Hats this winter? They both ended up too big; what am I doing wrong?

This is my magnum opus for the winter. I considered a seemingly endless collection of collared sweaters before finally trusting my gut and casting on the bepu blouse using this cozy dark brown.
The drop shoulder is perfect, the split in the cuffs is impractically whimsical and the yarn has perfect amount of fuzz.
Expect to see more chocolate sweetness in the coming months. 🤎
Last but not least is another addition to my growing collection of slipovers. Please please please don’t let sweater vests go out of style anytime soon. This is the perfect Colorado-its-still-snowing-in-spring layer.

That bepu blouse is beautiful. Obsessed with everything you make and wish I had the same talent for clothes making!
Wow Annie this is incredible !!
